Wardrobe Styling Guide
A simple checklist so everyone shows up feeling like themselves — and looking cohesive on camera.
1. Start with one hero color
Pick a base palette of 2–3 colors that flatter most of the group (soft neutrals, warm earth tones, or jewel tones). Avoid everyone matching identically — coordinated, not uniform.
2. Texture > logos
Knits, linen, soft cotton, and subtle patterns photograph beautifully. Skip large logos, neon graphics, and busy character prints that pull focus from faces.
3. Fit that moves
Choose clothes you can sit, walk, and hug in. Tailored but not tight. Layers (light jackets, cardigans) add depth without looking stiff.
4. Family coordination tips
- Kids: comfort first — if they’re itchy, the photos will show it
- Seniors: one bold piece + clean basics usually wins
- Multi-generational: keep elders in softer, classic tones; let kids carry a brighter accent
- Cultural / fashion sessions: bring the statement look — we’ll build the frame around it
5. Shoes, hair, little extras
Broken-in shoes over brand-new stiff pairs. Hair that feels normal for your day. Minimal shiny accessories unless they’re meaningful (heirloom jewelry, cultural pieces).
6. Weather backup
Minnesota weather changes fast. Pack a lightweight layer and a lint roller. For outdoor sessions we’ll always have an indoor or covered pivot when needed.
